Kiwis could be the Kiwifruit or the Kiwi bird. Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. Kiwifruit is a fruit that is enjoyed by many people around the world. The Kiwi bird is obviously not vegan, and we will be discussing why the Kiwifruit are not considered vegan.
Kiwi are just one of the few fruits vegans tend to avoid at all costs; other fruits may include almonds, avocados, butternut squash, and melons.
Why are kiwis not vegan?
Well, vegans considered the kiwifruit non-vegan for several reasons. The production processes, the preservation processes, and even the way they are treated in the farms where they are grown.
First off, the way they are treated. Kiwis are typically grown on large commercial farms, where they are often treated with a variety of chemicals and pesticides. These chemicals can be harmful to both the environment and the animals that live there. Additionally, many Kiwi farms use bees for pollination, which some vegans consider to be a form of animal exploitation.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be made from animals for it to be considered non-vegan; animal products themselves are also considered non-vegan. Another reason why Kiwis may not be considered vegan is that they are often waxed before being sold. This wax is often made from animal products, such as beeswax or carnauba wax, which is derived from the leaves of a Brazilian palm tree. While some vegans may choose to consume fruits and vegetables that have been waxed with animal-derived products, others may choose to avoid them.
Vegans would want to know how a food is processed before they consume it. They eat meals about which they know how they have been produced. Another maybe not so awkward reason why vegans avoid Kiwi is because they are often imported from other countries, where animal welfare standards may be lower. This means that the kiwis may have been produced using exploitative or inhumane practices.
The kiwifruit is a super source of pollen for honey bees, so they are sure to enjoy the pollination experience. Even though there is no nectar, the pollen is an excellent protein source for them. What do vegans think about bees pollinating fruits? Well, bees play a crucial role in the pollination of fruits and vegetables. Without bees, many crops would not be able to produce the fruits and vegetables that we rely on for nourishment. However, many vegans argue that the commercial beekeeping industry is exploitative toward bees.
Commercial beekeeping often involves the use of pesticides, which can harm bees and their colonies. Additionally, beekeepers may move hives from place to place to pollinate different crops, which can be stressful for the bees. Some vegans argue that this exploitation of bees for the purpose of producing fruits and vegetables is not in line with their ethical beliefs.
Vegans would also argue that the use of honey and beeswax in food products is a form of exploitation. Honey is a food source for bees and is produced by the bees themselves. Therefore, vegans argue that taking honey from bees is a form of theft. Similarly, beeswax is used in many products such as candles, lip balm, and lotions. Vegans argue that taking beeswax from the bees is also exploitative.
